Automotive Helmond is a leading European centre in which all Dutch Automotive developers and producers are united. In this building of the Institute they expose themselves with sophisticated technology and advanced state-of-the-art facilities. When this building was to be redecorated in 2009, they had a wish of letting the high tech automotive identity show in the interior of the building. From the wall decorations to the carpet design.
Op `t Root & Beerts Architecten were in charge of the interesting process of redecorating the Institute. Greatly inspired by a special made carpet found in ege’s reference list, for the FNAC CNIT shop in Paris, they developed a carpet design perfectly tailored to bring out the fantastic colours in the building.
Thin, bright lines that sweep across the carpets – sometimes tightly together and sometimes apart, sometimes parallel to each other and sometimes with huge curves – makes the carpet become alive and draws attention towards the floor. The design is almost seductive to the mind, as it makes one believe that the curves are actual dents in the floor. A darker carpet background, toned in black, green or blue depending on the rest of the interior in each room, makes the lines stand out along with the rest of the interior. All together it has created a tremendous and complete identity, making each room a pleasant and interesting whole.
There were several reasons why Op `t Root & Beerts Architecten chose to work with ege on this project; one of these were costs. “We were looking for a manufacturer, that could deliver a carpet with great durability and a special automotive design, but could also do it at a reasonable price”, Manuel Op `t Root from Op `t Root & Beerts Architecten explains. “ege was the answer to this, since they were capable of producing the wanted design in a competitive way”.
ege’s Dutch agent, Gijs Onstein, is very pleased with the great cooperation between ege and Op `t Root & Beerts Architecten.
“This project makes clear, that it is possible to buy a custom made ege carpet, with special design and custom colours at a reasonable price”, he states. “ege is known for great quality carpets and total freedom of design, but for some reason there has only been paid little attention to the fact, that we can also deliver in different price categories. Actually our carpets come in 8 different qualities; bringing 8 price categories”, Gijs Onstein explains.
A single visit to the Automotive Helmond Institute determines that the limited budget does not show in the final result. It is truly impressing to see, how the entire building’s interior is bound together by the carpets, supplying a unique and impressive expression to the building and underlining the high tech identity of Automotive Helmond.
